Human Resource Management (HRM) is a management function that focuses on hiring, motivating, and retaining a company's staff. Hiring, training, development, remuneration, motivation, communication, and administration are all topics covered by human resource management. Employee engagement and optimal contribution to the attainment of company goals are ensured by human resource management.


Why is it calls as Human Resource Management?


Human: Organization's qualified people.

Resourcerelates to scarcity or restricted availability.

Management How to make the most of limited or precious resources in order to achieve the organization's goals and objectives.

As a result, proper usage of an organization's limited skilled staff to fulfill its goals is simply referred to as human resource management.

A.) Managerial Function

1. Planning 

This work identifies current and future human resources to achieve organizational goals by establishing the best procedures and practices. For this purpose, periodical researches are done to collect the data.

2. Organizing

Establishing relationships among the employees and getting their collective contribution to the achievement of the organization's goal by creating,

- individual responsibilities and tasks.

- different groups of activities to different individuals.

- authority level according to the tasks assigned and responsibilities involved.

3. Directing

This HRM role entails motivating employees to perform willingly and efficiently in order to meet the organization's objectives. Employees can be motivated through relationships, providing benefits, and safety requirements. To manage this effectively, the needs of the employees and means and methods how to satisfy them should be identified.

4. Controlling

One of HRM's most significant functions is this little. After completing the above 3 functions employee's actual performance needs to verify as it helps to evaluate and control the performance of the department for different operative functions. 

 If it deviates from the plan, control measures are required to be implemented.

B.) Operative Function

1. Acquisition

Recruiting required no of employees and assigning them the right job for the fulfillment of the objectives of the organization. This function includes human resource recruitment, selection, and placement.

2. Training & Development

To successfully cope with rapid changes, it is a very essential function to continuously upgrade the employees through the meant of training and developments since it helps to improve skills and knowledge of the employees to perform their duties effectively and take higher-level responsibilities with confidence.

3. Motivation

Employees are generally doing their jobs with full efficiency only up to some extent and they expect some incentives to work beyond that. Both financial and non-financial incentives are to be provided to meet their desires.

4. Maintainance

Since employees are considered an asset to the organization, human resource management always should pay attention to retaining their good performing employees.

5. Remuneration

 Consideration of the fact of equitable payments for the different types of jobs is the decision of human resource management. This job is responsible for determining appropriate and equitable remuneration for employees.

6. Working Condition

Even upgrading of employees through training and development is not sufficient to ensure good productivity without providing a good working environment, conditions.

Good working conditions directly affect to influence the motivation and morale of the employees.

7. Personal Records

Under this function, maintains all kinds of records of the employees such as their training, achievements, transfer, promotion, etc. Apart from that preserves many other records relating to the behavior of personnel like absenteeism and labor turnover and the personnel programs and policies of the organization.

8. Industrial Relations

This includes all sorts of employer-employee relationships, whether at the national, regional, or company level, as well as all social and economic challenges, such as wage setting, working time, and working conditions

Maintaining industrial relations is a duty of the human resource manager and it helps in collective bargaining, joint consultation, and settlement of disputes.

9. Separation

It is the responsibility of the human resource manager to meet certain requirements of due process in separation, as well as assure that the returned person is in a good position. Further has to ensure the timely release of retirement benefits to the retiring personnel in time.

C.) Advisory Function

The human resource manager is the responsible person and expert in all matters relating to Human resources. He can give advice to the management of the organization on the following instances,

a. Top Management - Relevant to the formulation & evaluation of personal programs, policies, and procedures.

b. Departmental Heads - HR planning, reviewing of performance, Job analysis, job design, selection, recruitment, placement, training.
